Taipei Breakfast – Famous Fuhang Soy Milk 阜杭豆漿 and 2 of the Top Dishes to Get There!

The wonders of Taiwanese breakfast have been explained and introduced comprehensively in my article in my article linked below.

Where Can You Find the Best Taiwanese Breakfast? here are my 2023 top picks!

But, ultimately, what makes FuHang soy milk stand out amongst the crowd? Is there something here that is done so much better than other Taiwanese breakfast stores out there? Is their Shaobing, soy milk, or sweet pastries better than other offerings over Taipei city? Right here, right now, I will tell you that Fuhang soy milk is one of the best breakfast places in the city, for the reasons outlined in the amazing pictures and description that follow.

Be prepared. You will likely have to line up. But all is not lost! It may be a 30min wait only. Don't think Din Tai Fung wait times, folks. Fuhang soy milk are super efficient (not that Din Tai Fung isn't, but this kind of food is much quicker than a meal at a place like Din Tai Fung). The staff here keep the line moving at a rapid pace. In fact, so much so that I recently read an article likening the ordering process here to that of a tire change in F1 motor-sport...

If lining up isn't your thing and you really just don’t want to line up for FuHang soy milk, then just go ahead and Pre-order online, and the yummy breakfast will be delivered right to your door.
If you are planning to eat around Taipei, you can consider this Klook PASS: Taipei Must Eat Food.

Once you reach the top of those stairs ^ you will round the corner and see inside their kitchen, which is a lot of fun to see inside and start to get a feel for some of the items on offer to eat.

You'll also notice the inside is quite spacious, too. If there's a few in your party, then go grab a table and wait there for your orderer to do the business for you. But, you're trusting them to get everything you want, so do so at your peril. Alternatively, just say "1 of everything!" and you're likely not going to go wrong right here anyway. Really, a Taipei breakfast store such as Fuhang will not see you wrong.

Fuhang soy milk's menu

OK so we have soy milk, we have shaobing, we have rice rolls, we have some danbing (check out my comprehensive post on some of the best breakfast spots over the city here where I talk a lot about danbing, too!), and we also have some other little pastries to consider, too.

Thankfully, the whole menu is in English and Chinese. Also, some of those servers are multi-lingual, with English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean being banded around in the serving area. It may not be in-depth, but it is more than sufficient to get served.

    The menu board

This is essentially the same menu with prices, but just without pictures and all in Chinese...

The serving station is very organized, so pay attention to the signs.

    1. The first red sign tells you to order your drinks only.
    2. The next red sign tells you to order anything that isn't a drink.
    3. The final red sign tells you to pay.

The process isn't complicated, but it can be a little stressful as there's a lot of moving parts and a lot of talking back and forth amongst the servers throughout the preparation of your amazing Taiwanese breakfast.

While plating up and preparing, I could see my shaobing being cut open, and my savoury soy milk being poured into my bowl. Finally, my 40mins of a wait was about to all be made worth it.

So those amazing shaobing that you see on the left there are the thick ones. None of that flakey nonsense here. Here at Fuhang you're going to get this incredible thick bread shaobing that is going to set you off on an incredible day. This is a true breakfast spot in Taipei to take note of, as they do what I would class as the best thick shaobing, bar none.

    Danbing

It feels rude to go to a Taiwanese breakfast store as famous as Fuhang soy milk and not get their danbing. They're not particularly known for it, but Danbing is so damn good that it must be solid, right?

Well, actually, I didn't love it. Danbing, for me, should be about the crispy skin and fluffy egg inside, with probably some bacon, cheese, and maybe even a cheeky hash brown thrown in there for good measure. But these ones here at Fuhang are much more light in colour, chewy, and only filled with that fluffy egg that we know and love. If you're into chewy danbing, then this is a good shout. But I am not. I want something like Loco Food's Danbing (see my post on Loco Food right here, and let me know what you think!)

    (#2) Savoury soy milk

Fuhang soy milk salty soy milk

The serving method here aerates that soy milk to make it fluffy with a delicate mouthfeel (yes, I used mouthfeel right there, thank you James Hoffman for the introduction to this wonderful word).

As it curdles with the egg, it thickens up and brings all sorts of textures to your mouth. Now, let's address the elephant in the room right now - curdle. Oftentimes to curdle means something negative. Not here. Curdling here is used in an affectionate way, meaning to add texture that is complimented by flavour.

In the savoury soy milk here you will find little tiny shrimp that add a nice fragrance, in addition to crunchy fried doughsticks and coriander/cilantro on top. Now, these fried doughstick 'youtiao' are incredible. Often when you get them in your savoury soy deliciousness, you'll find that they quickly go soggy and fill you up without imparting flavour or texture. Not here. These doughstick 'youtiao' retain their integrity and allow for a crunch in your mouth, even after time in the bowl while you chomps down on whatever else you prioritize ahead of the savoury soy here.

    (#1) Shaobing

This. This is it. This is incredible and you absolutely must get stuck in to this bready beautiful breakfast treat. Thick, salty, sweet, fragrant, and well worth eating both there and then, and also taking some home to enjoy, too. I cannot recommend these enough.

Fluffy scallion egg fills the middle and pairs wonderfully with the bready exterior to bring this unctuous texture that oozes class. There is a mildly sweet brushing on top of the bread itself which adds an interesting dimension that helps lift the order even more. Honestly, it's so good.

To be even more like a local, go ahead and dip that incredible breakfast in that savoury soy milk and really live like the absolute BOSS that you are.

    Rice milk

    Fuhang soy milk rice milk

We got a soy based beverage, so we had to try another just to see if it was equally as good, if not better. The rice milk was good, and was not too sweet. But, it's not often my drink of choice. Go for it if you like it, though, as this one is a pretty solid option, too.

    Take - out possibilities

    breakfast story

Fuhang soy milk deliver, so you should absolutely consider getting your food delivered right to your door, without barely lifting a finger! In my experience of eating here for the last 10 years, I wouldn't get the pastry dishes here, as there's other food here that just knocks the pastry out of the park.

    The Bottom Line

Is it worth it? Unquestionably, Fuhang goes down as a beacon of amazing breakfast food in Taipei. The Taiwanese classic breakfast items are too good here to overlook. You'd be a fool to not go here at least once a month!

If you have to only order 1 thing, what is it? The thick, bready shaobing is unreal. You absolutely must get it. It's fluffy, it's bready, it has a sweet topping to it, and the egg is cooked to retain its fluffiness. It really is unbeatable in Taipei.
